The Osun State University Alumni Association has inaugurated a new set of executives, with a renewed commitment to supporting the institution’s growth and development.
The inauguration, held at the university’s New Senate Chamber on Monday, brought together members of the alumni body, university management, and other stakeholders.
Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor of Osun State University, Professor Odunayo Adebooye, described the institution’s journey as a remarkable one, noting that the university had grown from a modest beginning into a respected multi-campus institution with global recognition.
According to him, the quality of graduates produced by the university continues to attract positive attention across different sectors.
He cited the recent commendation of a young medical doctor trained at the institution, who was reportedly praised for demonstrating a level of professionalism comparable to that of a seasoned consultant.
Adebooye attributed such achievements to deliberate investments made by the university over the years, including the establishment of the Folorunsho Alakija Research Medical Facility.
The Vice-Chancellor congratulated the newly elected executives and urged them to sustain their support for the university’s developmental programmes.
A leadership transition also took place within the association’s Board of Trustees as the outgoing chairman formally handed over responsibilities to the new chairman, Rev. Dr. Joshua Ayorinde.
In his remarks, Ayorinde pledged to work closely with the new executive council to strengthen the association and build on existing achievements.
Delivering the keynote address, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Protocol, Ambassador Isa Niniola, commended the university’s growth and charged the new alumni leadership to collaborate with the institution in advancing its vision.
The newly inaugurated Global President of the association, Comrade Abubakar Abdubasit Olalekan, promised to prioritise initiatives that would benefit both alumni and the university community.
Olalekan disclosed plans to expand the ongoing Alumni Hostel Project beyond the Osogbo campus to other campuses of the institution.
He also paid tribute to students and alumni who lost their lives in a recent road accident, including Sulaiman, a graduate of Linguistics and Communication Studies who had returned to the university to study Law before his death.
Other members of the new executive council include Akinlade Boluwatife Akinade as Vice President, Azeez Uthman Adewale as General Secretary, Arasanyin Azeezat as Assistant General Secretary, Salami Adijat Yetunde as Social Director, Gbadamosi Abdulwahab and Habib Abdulrasheed Opeyemi as Financial Directors, Dr. Jamiu Adedayo as Auditor General, and Oluwasegun Faleyimu as Public Relations Officer.
Among dignitaries at the event were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (ARIP), Professor Kehinde Lawrence; the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Maruf Olayiwola; Director of Academic Planning, Professor Muktar Abanikanda; Professor Adigun of the Entrepreneurship Directorate; as well as other principal officers, alumni members, family and friends.
