A 500-level student of the Department of Radiography and Radiation Sciences, Osun State University, UNIOSUN, Ifẹoluwa Akangbe, has emerged as one of the recipients of the Undergraduate Research Grant Award of the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria, RRBN.
Akangbe was selected under the RRBN’s ₦5 million Undergraduate Research Grant initiative, established to support promising undergraduate researchers demonstrating academic excellence and proposing research capable of bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application.
According to a statement by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, Akangbe will receive a ₦100,000 grant to support his research.
The recognition adds to the growing profile of undergraduate research within the Department of Radiography and Radiation Sciences and reflects the increasing opportunities available to students to pursue research beyond the classroom.
Reacting to the development, the Vice-Chancellor of UNIOSUN, Professor Odunayo Clement Adebooye, expressed delight over Akangbe’s achievement, describing the recognition as significant to the student, his supervisors, the department and the university.
Adebooye said the award would further strengthen UNIOSUN’s visibility in radiography and health sciences research while highlighting the quality of training and research opportunities available to its students.
The Vice-Chancellor also reaffirmed the university’s commitment to promoting research, innovation and scholarship, stressing the importance of supporting undergraduate researchers in developing the knowledge and skills required to transform academic learning into practical solutions to societal challenges.
He congratulated Akangbe, his supervisors and the Department of Radiography and Radiation Sciences, while expressing optimism that the achievement would encourage more students to pursue research and academic excellence.
The award also provides another platform for UNIOSUN students to demonstrate their capacity beyond the lecture room, particularly in areas where undergraduate research can contribute to solving practical challenges in healthcare and society.
