UNIOSUN Disowns Viral Fake Document

The management of Osun State University (UNIOSUN) has disowned a viral circular claiming that the institution introduced a compulsory ₦30,000 security levy for undergraduate students, describing the document as fake and urging students and members of the public to disregard it.

In an official statement, the University clarified that the circular, which has been circulating on social media, did not emanate from the institution.

The fake document, dated June 29, 2026, and purportedly issued by the Office of the Registrar under the reference REG/ADM/CIRC/16/0016, was titled “Notice Regarding Student Security, Recent Altercations, and Compulsory Levy.”

The circular falsely claimed that the University’s management had approved a compulsory ₦30,000 levy from each undergraduate student following reported security-related altercations involving neighbouring army barracks. It further alleged that the levy was intended to offset over ₦2 million reportedly demanded by the barracks and stated that payment details would soon be communicated to students.

Dismissing the document, the University stated:

“The University wishes to inform all students and members of the public that the document currently in circulation is fake and did not emanate from the University. Students are advised to disregard the document and refrain from sharing unverified information.”

The management urged students and members of the public to rely solely on information disseminated through the University’s official communication channels to avoid being misled by false publications.

Olofofo Uniosun learnt this through a disclaimer that was rebroadcast by Oluwasegun Faleyimu (MIGHTY), Public Relations Officer of the Osun State University Alumni Association, to further alert students and the general public to the University’s position.

UNIOSUN reiterated its commitment to providing accurate and timely information and called on members of the University community to verify the authenticity of any publication concerning the institution before acting on or sharing it.
