Vice Chancellor approves installation of solar panels across six UNIOSUN campuses

The Vice Chancellor of Osun State University; Professor Clement Adebooye has approved the installation of solar panels across the six campuses to address the ongoing electricity and water supply challenges faced by students residing in the university hostels, particularly at the Ifetedo Campus.

Recall that Olofofo Uniosun earlier reported the electricity issue faced by the students in Ifetedo Campus which gathered several attentions.

In an interview with the Public Relations Officer of the University Management; Mr Ademola Adesoji, he told Olofofo Uniosun that the Vice Chancellor of Osun State University, Professor Clement Adebooye has approved the installation of solar panels across all Uniosun hostels, beginning with the Ifetedo Campus. He emphasised on the University’s commitment to improving the students’ welfare and ensuring a conducive living and learning environment.

The solar panel installation initiative has already commenced at two major hostels on the Ifetedo Campus, Olubosin Hostel and the New Girls Hostel. This move is expected to alleviate the long-standing issues of unreliable power supply, which in turn affected water availability and hindered students’ daily activities.

“The Vice Chancellor has approved the installation of solar panels for the hostels in Ifetedo Campus and across all Uniosun hostel. Olubosin Hostel and the New Girls Hostel at Ifetedo Campus have already been implemented, and work will continue at other campuses as soon as possible.” Mr Ademola said.

Interestingly, the solar panel project is being implemented by a group of Uniosun Alumni who specialize in renewable energy solutions. The alumni, having graduated from the university and built their expertise in the field, have taken up this project to give back to their alma mater.

“This initiative is not only a solution to the immediate power issues but also a testament to the strength and success of our alumni network. They have been equipped to handle this project, and they are already actively working on it.” he added.

As the solar panel project progresses, students and stakeholders eagerly anticipate its completion, which will mark a significant milestone in the university’s journey toward sustainable development and enhanced student welfare.
