The Osun State University Alumni Association has congratulated Dr. Mrs. Victoria Adunola Samson, popularly known as Mama BOVAS, on her appointment as the new Chancellor of Osun State University by Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke.In a statement issued by the National Public Relations Officer of the association, Oluwasegun Faleyimu, the alumni body described the appointment as a welcome development and expressed confidence in the leadership capacity, integrity and humanitarian values of the newly appointed Chancellor.
The association noted that Dr. Samson had earned widespread respect within Nigeria’s business sector through her discipline, transparency, resilience and compassionate leadership style.According to the statement, Mama BOVAS transformed the BOVAS brand into one of Nigeria’s most trusted indigenous petroleum companies while maintaining a reputation for professionalism and equitable service delivery.
The association further praised her contributions to humanitarian causes, educational development, healthcare support, scholarship programmes and community interventions through the BOVAS Foundation and other initiatives across the country.It also highlighted some of her recognitions and achievements, including the Texaco Latin America and West Africa Award, which made her the first Nigerian recipient in 1990, as well as the Entrepreneurship Ambassador Award recently presented to her by Kings University.
The alumni body also appreciated the immediate past Chancellor, Mrs. Folorunso Alakija, for her decade-long service to the university, particularly her contributions to infrastructure development and humanitarian support.
The statement added that Alakija’s service had left an enduring legacy within the institution and that the alumni association remained grateful for her dedication and commitment to the growth of the university.
The association equally commended Governor Adeleke for appointing Dr. Samson, describing the decision as thoughtful and beneficial to the continued progress and development of Osun State University.
The statement was issued on behalf of the Global President of the association, Comr. Abubakar Abdubasit Olalekan, and members of the National Executive Council.
