UNIOSUN admission: School portal says admitted, but JAMB CAPS says otherwise? Here’s what to do

As candidates begin checking their admission status for the 2026/2027 academic session at Osun State University (UNIOSUN), some may face a confusing situation: their school admission portal indicates that they have been offered admission, while the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board’s Central Admissions Processing System (JAMB CAPS) displays a different status.

For candidates who have spent months hoping for admission, such a mismatch can be worrying. However, it is important to understand what the different statuses mean and what to do before making any decisions.

Why might the two portals show different statuses?

UNIOSUN’s admission process operates within the framework of JAMB CAPS, the system used to process and confirm admissions into Nigerian tertiary institutions.

An offer or indication of admission on a university portal may not immediately appear as an approved admission on CAPS. According to JAMB’s official guidance, this can happen when an institution has shortlisted a candidate but has not yet formally recommended the admission to JAMB, or when the candidate’s O’Level results have not been successfully uploaded or verified.

JAMB also advises candidates to check whether they have an outstanding transfer offer in the Transfer Approval section of CAPS.

This means that a difference between the two portals should be investigated rather than immediately interpreted as either a confirmed admission or a rejection.

What should you do if UNIOSUN says ‘Admitted’ but CAPS says otherwise?

  1. Confirm your status on the official UNIOSUN portal

First, sign in to the official UNIOSUN Undergraduate Admissions Portal and check your admission status. Use the application details you registered with and ensure that you are checking the correct admission session.

Official portal: https://admissions.uniosun.edu.ng/

  1. Check your JAMB CAPS status

Next, access JAMB CAPS through the official JAMB website and check your admission status.

Official CAPS portal: https://caps.jamb.gov.ng/

Check the exact message displayed. There is a difference between statuses such as ‘Not Admitted’, ‘Admission in Progress’ and ‘Admitted’. Do not assume they all mean the same thing.

  1. Confirm that your O’Level results have been uploaded

JAMB identifies the successful upload and verification of O’Level results as one of the requirements candidates should check when their admission has not reflected on CAPS.

If you discover that your results have not been uploaded or are not correctly reflected, contact an accredited CBT centre or the appropriate JAMB support channel for guidance on resolving the issue.

  1. Give the admission process time, but do not ignore the mismatch

If your UNIOSUN portal indicates that you have been offered admission but CAPS has not updated, the university may still need to complete the necessary recommendation or approval process.

Do not assume that the difference will resolve itself automatically. Monitor both portals and contact the university’s Admission Office if the discrepancy persists.

UNIOSUN’s published admission contact details include admissions@uniosun.edu.ng and 08107976419. The university lists the Admission Office’s telephone service hours as 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday.

  1. Do not rush into payments based on an unverified claim

Candidates should rely on official instructions from the university and JAMB before making admission-related payments.

Avoid paying individuals who claim they can make an admission appear on CAPS, fast-track approval or secure an admission slot. UNIOSUN has warned candidates against fraudulent individuals claiming to have influence over its admission process.

What if JAMB CAPS says ‘Not Admitted’?

A ‘Not Admitted’ status on CAPS does not, by itself, explain why the candidate has not received an admission offer.

If the UNIOSUN portal indicates admission while CAPS still says ‘Not Admitted’, candidates should verify their O’Level upload, check for outstanding transfer offers and seek clarification from the university’s Admission Office.

Candidates should not reject an offer, abandon their application or conclude that they have lost admission solely because the two portals display different statuses.

However, they should also avoid treating the university portal message as final confirmation that all admission requirements have been completed.

The most important thing to remember

An admission offer is a major step, but candidates must ensure that their admission is properly processed and confirmed through the official system.

For the 2026/2027 admission exercise, aspirants are advised to rely on the official UNIOSUN and JAMB portals, follow instructions displayed on their accounts and seek clarification directly from the relevant authorities whenever their admission status is unclear.

Have you checked your UNIOSUN admission status? Does your school portal say ‘Admitted’ while JAMB CAPS displays a different message? Candidates should verify their individual status through the official portals rather than rely on screenshots or unverified claims circulating on social media.
