The Governor of Osun State (Ademola Adeleke) has expressed grief over the death of a 400-level Criminology and Security Studies student of Osun State University, Ifetedo Campus, Ms. Osunlakin Grace, describing the incident as painful and heartbreaking.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the governor extended his condolences to the deceased’s family, the university’s Governing Council, management, staff and students, particularly the Ifetedo Campus community.
He prayed for the repose of the student’s soul and asked God to grant the family and the university community the strength to bear the loss.
Adeleke also appealed to students and members of the public to remain calm and peaceful while relevant authorities review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
He urged all stakeholders to refrain from actions or statements capable of heightening tensions, assuring that his administration would continue to prioritise the safety and welfare of students.
The governor further directed the Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the management of Osun State University, to carry out a comprehensive review of healthcare services across all campuses.
According to him, the review is aimed at strengthening emergency response systems, improving medical facilities and ensuring students have timely access to quality healthcare.
Adeleke reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to quality education, student welfare and improved healthcare services across all state-owned tertiary institutions .
