UNIOSUN Shuts Ifetedo Campus After 400-Level Student Dies

Osun State University (UNIOSUN) has ordered the indefinite closure of its Ifetedo Campus following the death of Grace Osunlakin, a 400-level Criminology and Security Studies student, the university announced Thursday.

Osunlakin died on Wednesday, June 24, 2026. The university’s Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, confirmed the closure in an official statement, saying management acted swiftly to maintain calm on campus in the wake of the incident.

“The University Management extends its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the student community, and all stakeholders affected by this unfortunate incident,” the statement read.

Beyond allowing students time to grieve, the shutdown will facilitate a comprehensive review of healthcare facilities, medical personnel, and water supply systems at the Ifetedo Campus infrastructure the university acknowledged has faced longstanding deficiencies.

UNIOSUN assured the public that a full investigation into the circumstances of the student’s death would be conducted and that measures would be put in place to prevent a recurrence.

The university urged students, parents, and stakeholders to remain calm and cooperate with management as it works toward resolving the identified issues and restoring academic activities at the campus.
