UNIOSUN VC swears-in first female SUG president

The Vice chancellor of Osun State University, Prof. Clement Adebooye, on Thursday, sworn-in the institution’s first-ever female president of the Student Union Government, Com Ayomide Adigun popularly known as Rabel Jnr, alongside other newly elected executive and legislative members.

The swearing-in ceremony, which took place at the institution’s multipurpose hall of the main campus in Osogbo, was attended by representatives from the school management, other faculty associations, and former executive and legislative members, among others.

The don, in his speech, commended the students for conducting a peaceful and transparent election, encouraging the new leaders to uphold integrity and serve as role models.

Speaking at the event, Adigun expressed gratitude to various student bodies for entrusting her with the position, identifying vital areas of requiring urgent attention across the campuses.

She assured that her administration would collaborate with the management to restore internet connectivity across the six campuses and embark on completion of some unfinished sustainable and capital projects from previous administrations.
According to the final-year law student, the action would facilitate seamless learning, research, communication and empower students with the required tools to thrive in the digital age.

She added that the newly sworn in executives would work hand in hand with industry leaders towards the provision of internship opportunities, which would bridge the gap between academia and the real world, saying “we will create avenues for hands-on experiences that prepare our students for successful careers.”

“To address the transportation challenges faced by students, we will diplomatically pursue the implementation of an alternative means of transportation in all the campus as we have rightly been doing. By exploring innovative solutions, such as shuttle services, we aim to alleviate the burden on students and reduce their vulnerability to exploitation.

“In our pursuit of academic excellence, we acknowledge the financial obstacles faced by many students. To address this, we will advocate for scholarships and also will implore all students to apply for the student loan; an initiative of the president of the federal republic of Nigeria coordinated by NELFUND.

She added, “We will create a harmonious and productive relationship with the university administration, ensuring that our student community’s needs and aspirations are at the forefront of decision-making and planning. Together, we will build an environment that nurtures academic excellence, empowers personal growth, and promotes the holistic well-being of each and every student.

“As we move forward with our sustainable capital projects, it is imperative to address the unfinished projects funded by the previous administration. We arm that all ongoing projects funded by the previous administration will be completed in line with their original plans and timelines. For projects that are yet to be funded, we will conduct a comprehensive review to prioritise those that align with our vision and address the pressing needs of our student community.

“In our pursuit of administrative synergy, we recognise the importance of fostering strong relationships between student representatives and the broader administrative bodies within our university. To promote a deeper understanding of governance and legislation, we are committed to ensuring the sanctity of our sacrosanct constitution by abiding by the words to the letter.”

Adeniji Alexander (Erudite) – Ipetu Ijesa Campus, Financial Secretary: ⁠Com. Babayemi Boluwatife Florence – Oshogbo Campus, Public Relations Officer: Com. Owoyemi Alameen Ademola (Oríadé) – Ikire Campus. Social Director: COM. Bolarinwa Titilayo Favour – Ipetu Ijesa Campus, Welfare Director: Com. Adeyemi Khadijat Olayinka – Oshogbo Campus, Assistant General Secretary: Com. Oraegbu Anthony (Jiggy) – Ifetedo Campus, Sports Director: Com. ⁠Jegede Akinfolarin Ayomide – Ikire Campus, Auditor General: Com. Ajewole Raphael Temitope (Focus) – Ejigbo Campus.

The legislative arm led by the newly appointed Speaker Hon. Adeyemo Musa, also took the oaths of office.
